Jill Berlin LaGotto receives the 2024 Janine Liegi Memorial Award
Dr. Rebecca Seery, principal of Wemrock Brook School, presented the 2024 Janine Liegi Memorial Award (“JLMA”) to Jill Berlin LaGotto on behalf of The Foundation for MERS. The Foundation for MERS has established the JLMA to commemorate Janine Liegi's dedicated service to the MERS K-8 school district. This award acknowledges a community member for their commitment to the district and their service to the community, honoring and preserving the legacy of Janine Liegi throughout the district. Janine was remembered for her smile, laughter, and genuine kindness, serving as a role model for all and demonstrating the daily actions we should emulate.
The JLMA annually recognizes an outstanding individual for his/her service. The recipient of this award exemplifies dedication to the district and personal sacrifice. The honoree is committed to the community, and they are a model of integrity, believing that all students can and will succeed.
Ms. Jill Berlin LoGatto has significantly impacted many students' lives. She teaches students to believe in themselves, make choices that reflect good character, and handle challenging situations in their home lives.
Mrs. Berlin LoGatto goes above and beyond her duties. She created and implemented the ELC's character education program, "I am giving! I am kind! I am respectful!" She proactively addresses students' behavioral and emotional difficulties by collaborating with parents, outside professionals, and teaching staff members. She implemented a Playground Pal program for kindergarten students and facilitated "No Child Left Alone" to ensure students connect with staff. Most recently, she was named the district's Nurtured Heart Facilitator Coach and led the district in implementing the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA).
Mrs. Berlin LoGatto's positive impact extends far beyond the school walls. She is a lifelong learner, constantly enhancing her practice to serve her students and community better. She connects families and teachers to vital community resources, organizes food, coat, and holiday drives for those in need, and is a true role model. Her contributions have significantly and positively impacted our school district and the wider community, inspiring hope and a brighter future for all.
Her impact will be felt for years to come. Families will gather around their dinner tables and share stories of how she helped their children find their confidence, be proud of who they are, and believe in themselves. It’s clear to see she is a deserving recipient of the Janine Liegi Memorial Award. She is truly A CHAMPION for CHILDREN!
