"Andy Sheehy Award for Citizenship" Grant Awarded to MEMS

Once again, The Foundation for MERS has proudly provided the funds for the MEMS, 8th grade graduation “Andy Sheehy Award for Citizenship”. Each year one special education student from each community and one student from the departmentalized program at MEMS is awarded a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card. The award impacts and promotes the students’ work ethic and desire to reach their academic potential, achieving high marks and becoming a role model to their peers.

Andrew J. Sheehy was a beloved educator. He served the MERS district from 1973-1995. His dedication to our K-8 school district currently continues to impact and inspire countless students and faculty.  His compassion to serve the district, specifically the pupil personnel department was his driving force as he continued his work after his terminal diagnosis, and literally worked to his last days with us.  Andy sadly passed away much too young in 1995.

You can find a wonderful plaque in Clark Mills Elementary School which dedicates The Pupil Personnel Services Wing to his loving memory in honor of his years of service and dedication to our district’s children.
